A short audio clip is making the world go bonkers and setting up friends against friends in this ongoing online debate after a Reddit user posted the short clip of a word being read out loud, asking fellow Reddit users a simple question: What do you hear? . Many think they are hearing the word “Laurel” while the rest are convinced it says the other. It’s the most bewildering phenomenon ever since the great “the dress” debate of 2015.
There are psychological reasons as to why there can be so much disagreement over how an audio clip sounds. The brain is combining sensory input from the outside world with what’s already happening inside to create our perception. These idiosyncratic perceptions of reality are different for every person.
