Cabinet Shuffle: The New BJP NDA – Find out who got what? 5/5 (1)

cabinet shuffle

Cabinet Shuffle: After the swearing ceremony of the new Prime Minister, the silence has finally been broken; And the new Cabinet for Modi’s government 2.0 has been announced. Modi 2.0 includes a major shuffle with respect to the previous cabinet. The new council of Ministers consist of 24 Cabinet Ministers, 9 Ministers of State with independent charge and 24 Ministers of state.
While a several like Suresh Prabhu, Maneka Gandhi, Uma Bharti, Mahesh Sharma, Radha Mohan Singh, Rajyavardhan Rathore, Jayant Sinha, Jual Oram and Ram Kripal Yadav have been replaced and have no place in the new union. Hence, there are a total of 24 new faces.

The Big Shots: Cabinet Shuffle

The biggest hit is Amit Shah, who served as the party President of BJP since 2014 will now serve as the Minister of Home Affairs. This includes tackling some of the major controversial issues during the previous reign; like Jammu and Kashmir, the NRC of Assam and security and immigration issues.

With Arun Jaitely opting out of Modi 2.0,  Nirmala Sitharaman was another big hit. Sitharaman was India’s second female Defense Minister; her new Cabinet now making her the second female Finance Minister. But, this is significant as the economy of India is facing several challenges including rising graph of unemployment. Moreover, the economy has been on a steady slowdown with weaker consumption and growing US- China trade war.

Rajnath Singh will handle the crucial  portfolio of Defense Ministry. But, he was an efficient Home Minister in Modi 1.0 who implemented party’s tough line on terror.

Piyush Goyal who served as the interim Finance Minister due to Jaitely’s ill health has now been assigned Commerce portfolio along with his previous responsibility of Railways.

Former TV star Smriti Irani with her shocking victory in Amethi against Rahul Gandhi of INC has cemented her political career. She will now serve Minister of Women and Child Development along with Minister of Textiles.

Other than the new entrants like former diplomat S. Jaishankar; most ministers from previous ministry have retained their portfolios.
