Chandrayaan-2 Called off

Shriharikota: India’s most awaited and high profile mission, Chandrayaan-2 called off a few minutes before the launch because of some technical snag in the launch system.

The news created hue amongst the media gallery of the SHAR. Journalists not only from the different parts of the country but from abroad came to witness this high profile launch.

At T-56, a few minutes before the launch the mission was called off due to a technical glitch in the launch vehicle system. The announcement was made by an official ISRO spokesperson, “A technical snag hwas observed in the launch vehicle system at T-56 minutes(the countdown). As a measure of precaution, the launch has been called off today, The revised launch date will be announced later”

Indian would have been the fourth country after USSR, US, China to land on moon. Provided the GSLV MKIII launch system would have lifted the Chandrayaan-2 and the lunar craft without a glitch. The estimated landing date was September 6-7.

The calling off of the mission is a setback to ISRO as well as India. President Ram Nath Kovind came to witness the launch in Shriharikota. ISRO, however does not want to take any chance as it has spent almost Rs 1,000 crore on the project.

In April this year, Israel’s Beresheet mission failed and their lunar craft crash-landed on moon. Subsequently ISRO postponed its launch of Chandrayaan-2 from April to July to continue with further researches. India, has to further wait for this prestigious day until ISRO announces the new dates.
